Today at the MovieBrats office: delivery service dropped a little package we have eagerly been waiting for. You must know, we are already planning to produce some “content” during our upcoming research trip. Not yet for the final feature documentary, rather to be made available online, so you all can take part in it. We just like to capture footage of encounters, chats, interviews, moods and atmosphere, faces and stories. Hit the jump to see what the little package has to do with our plan.
It’s a Canon EOS 5D Mark II – the first DSLR camera that is able to shoot full high definition video. The lovely people at Canon were kind enough to provide us with one camera for our trip. Thanks, Canon.
Well, it’s totally new to us to shoot video with a photocamera. But we really liked the image quality and style that we saw in short films and videos created with the 5D MkII. So, while road tripping throughout the States we’ll try and give our travel videos this extra touch. You know, when you are shooting documentary style and you are trying to be low-key and you also want to take pictures at the same time, a DSLR with HD video recording option seems a pretty good choice. If we only had one of those special snorkel lenses that allow you to shoot around corners, we’d be even more low-key. Well, next time
For now we are gonna see if the camera lives up to its promise.
There’s one thing we haven’t figured out yet: How do we record sound with it while a) being as flexible as possible and b) still managing to maintain a great sound quality. If any of you have a hint or even own experiences you like to share with us don’t hesitate and leave your reply.
